exploring ethical issues in research in the arts

The Ethics in (artistic) research working group aims to encourage professors, postdoc and PhD researchers and lecturer-researchers to explore, share and exchange with each other ethical issues and questions from their research practice in the arts or creative sector. To this end, the platform develops programmes and activities that contribute to knowledge and awareness of the role of ethics in research in the arts.

This video is an introduction to ethical considerations in practice-based and artistic research; not to give answers, but to create consciousness and foster the dialogue about the different aspects when conducting research as an artistic or practice-based researcher. It can be used in research education, training, supervision sessions, etc.

The animation is an outcome of the HKU postdoc research “Common Ground” by Falk Hübner – now professor at Fontys – and based on the book chapter “Ethics Through an Empathetic Lens”, in: Vear, Craig (ed.) (2022). The Routledge International Handbook of Practice-Based Research. Routledge.
