Creator Doctus is a three-year research trajectory for visual artists and designers. It is a relatively new trajectory within the third cycle and was set up by the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. When the three-year trajectory is completed and judged sufficient by the evaluation committee the participant will be awarded the title Creator Doctus (CrD).
The program is meant for visual artists who are “mid-career” who are in that phase of their career where they gain a lot of commissions and make a great amount of work, but don’t have the time and/or focus to investigate new, innovative work/art. It this trajectory the work of the artist takes the center stage. The research will result in a series of artworks and does not require a written dissertation.
An important part of the Creator Doctus program is the collaboration with a social commission partner. The artist formulates his or her research questions within the context of the framework provided by a commissioning partner. In addition to the supervision provided by the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, the possibility of having a supervisor from the University of Amsterdam can be explored.
The application requirements are:
- A Master’s degree
- A strong art practice
- A sufficient research proposal that meets the selection criteria.
De CrD-candidate will be offered a part-time contract at the art academy that facilitates the research trajectory. This means the candidate will be paid for his or her participation in the Creator Doctus Program.
