domain: theory in the arts, artistic research 

The Theory in the Arts research group investigates the meaning and role of theory in the arts, which is to be distinguished from theory about the arts. Theory in the arts is theory at work in the practice of the arts itself, that is in the proces of making, steadily unfolding there, opening up new areas of knowledge. Being part of ArtEZ hogeschool voor de kunsten, a university of the arts with many artistic disciplines, the Theory in the Arts research group specifically focuses on the meaning and role of theory in the various arts and in art education as a whole. Its main goal is not to answer the question what theory and research in the arts is or should be, but rather to ask what it could be. Hereby the research group aims not only to conduct research, but also to create frameworks for it.
