The domain of the professorship is learning and creative pedagogies. The professorship aims at creating space for research that champions sustainable, caring, and transformative approaches to creative pedagogies. It explores the need for students and teachers to engage critically with knowledge systems, to question dominant paradigms, and to embrace a sustainable approach to learning.
Students are encouraged to become adaptable, independent thinkers, capable of navigating complex professional landscapes. There is an emphasis on the ethical practice of caring within education – fostering a culture of empathy, respect, and collective responsibility – and promotes unlearning as a vital process for challenging established norms and cultivating an educational environment that is open to diverse perspectives and committed to continuous growth and transformation. The professorship has officially been launched in January 2025. Following the four-year plan, the professorship will focus on three main research lines: Research in Creative Education, Creative Pedagogies of Care, and Critical Unlearning Spaces. Each research line aligns with a core HKU focus area, bringing the work into direct dialogue with institutional priorities.
