The domain of the professorship Design & Social Innovation encompasses social innovation, participatory design, and the interaction between designers and various stakeholders within transition challenges. It focuses on researching and developing strategies that enhance the connection between social, organizational, and technological innovations. Additionally, the lab engages in the application of both qualitative and quantitative research methods, integrating design, science, and technology.

The professorship Design & Social Innovation focuses on transition challenges with a strong emphasis on social innovation. In collaboration with institutional partners such as municipalities, provinces, and governmental bodies, including Rijkswaterstaat, the professorship provides expert knowledge on participatory design strategies. In this context, social innovation is integrated with organizational and technological innovation.

The researchers within the lab possess expertise in various disciplines, including cartographic methods, participatory design, social sciences, GIS, and geotechnology. This enables them to combine qualitative research with a quantitative, data-driven approach, leading to innovative solutions for complex social issues.
